Very Nice, something new and this would
have been in my voting Might have voted for this one if not
unqualified
Very nice. Too bad it was unqualified.
I like the transition from waves to calm.
I like the gentle shift from gray to blue. The subject has a
soothing effect. Too bad it was unqualified, would have had my vote. |

Not sure about the foreground reflected
branch, I may have cropped the bottom 25%. |
 |

New meaning to breaker 1 9-lives?
Great shot and good expression capture on cat, but background is
distracting.
Cute idea.
Great Cats! A lot of humour here
This just missed being my #4 pick. I just LOVE that sly look on
the cat's face!
Wonderfully creative and humorous way to adhere to the theme, but
the overall visual appeal is a bit lacking. Too bad something
couldn't be done with the background.
Too cute!
Cute ! "10-4 there good buddy" |

Very nice scene, a little more space at
the bottom, and may have moved up in my voting. Nice composition.
The foreground boats lead the eye to the sailboat. I think I might
have trimmed some of the foreground, though.
To me, the reflections in this shot were secondary. The distant
highlighed boat on the horizon is what captured my eye. Also the
water in the foreground is too dark. I would crop this about 1/3 up
from the bottom and I think it would be a lovely shot.
Great colors.
I like the way the more modern boats point to the distant older
sailboat. and of course, right on theme! |

Well done Simple idea, but nicely
done - would be easier on everyone if it was the other way up
though. ;-)
Ah, an orange tubed celestron...
Very interesting. How did you do this?
This one brings it all together IMHO
Unusual and original idea for the contest. I like the geometry
of the shot and although disconcerting, the upside down image
certainly holds my attention. Would like to know what the object is
(telescope of some sort I assume?). Well done, nicely exposed and
good background. Is it a composite or original shot?
This made #4 for me. I'm used to upside down reflections in
water, etc., but it's very striking in mid air like this. Amazingly
sharp.
Remarkable shot
Sharp, well composed image. Good idea. Not one of the more "artsie"
shots, but got my vote for originality and quality. |
 |
F006 |
This looks a little low in contrast to
me. I would increase brightness contrast by 30% each. Of course,
this will make the blown hilights in the T-shirt and boat worse.
Other than the reflection in the foreground, I'm not sure what this
image is supposed to say. |
 |
F007 |
A little wider view of the scene, may
have gotten my vote, but not sure if distractions are outside of the
frame. You have blown highlights in this picture, too, but the
brightness and contrast look better than the other one.
Same comment as #6. Subjects are too similar. You may be
diluting your votes. |

I would like this much better if B&W
were not so washed out, but maybe you wanted it very high key.
Good idea. That gal sure is a cutie.
Original interpretation of the theme. Very nice picture.
Really like this.
I really appreciate all the subtle work done on this - not just
the great rendering of the "drawing" in the foreground, but how did
he get the hair straight in the reflection, as if it were the other
side of her head? Plus the rotational distortion produced by the
"mirror". Very impressive job. But I still liked 4 others better,
so had to skip this one.
Well done.
Good idea. Cute subject. But the hair looks a little unnatural
where it was lenghten. |
 |
F009 |
The duck adds a lot to this shot. Might
look better with a little more red. Very nice. It made my first
cut, but didn't make it into the "money". Just too many good
pictures in this contest.
Beautiful picture and the duck is nice and sharp. Would liked to
see the colors just a bit more saturated
Wonderful warm colors. Composition is too close to centered -
looks a bit static.
Right place, right time, great shooter, great shot.
Good relevance to theme. Nice calming image. Good composition.
Got my vote! |

Reflection? I see evolution. ????
Sorry. Don't understand this one.
LOL! Looks like the big fish about to eat the little fish. |
 |
F011 |
Looking up? Interesting view I like
this - but I can't figure out where the reflection is.
Interesting perspective. Very nice.
Interesting solution of the task, good reflections although a bit
disturbing with all the construction details
I really, really love this shot. Very striking. Perhaps I'm a
bit slow, but where's the reflection?
Very modern subject. Goes well with contest theme. A bit
disturbing because it is hard to see what we are looking at...which
is a plus. |
 |
F012 |
Nice interpretation of the theme.
Very well executed. Good use of lighting
Striking shot of an interesting subject. Reflections a bit too
subtle, however, so I down-rated it for adherence to theme.
|
 |
F013 |
Like the stillness and the atmosphere
of the scene. Very enigmatic - not entirely comfortable with the
cropping though
This needs a secondary point of interest - has too much empty
space.
Very nice. Good composition.
Very nice picture with atmosphere, good composition and solution
of the theme.
Great composition and sticking with the theme.
Nicely done. Can't wait to hear the title.
The crop is what makes this good pic a great one.
Excellent for this theme. |
 |
F014 |
Good on several levels, both literally
and figuratively. Fits well with the contest theme, but I'm not
sure that the reflections aren't more of a distraction in an
otherwise interesting, well composed and technically executed photo.

Nice peaceful colors |
 |
F016 |
Very strong image, nice frame effect,
colour/b&w and geometric contrasts - top marks. Very clever, took
me several moments to figure out what it was.
I like the originality of this one. The distortion in the mirror
itself adds interest and the black and white stripes make a great
frame for the center of interest.
Bold colours, good theme relevance. Interesting picture. |

I keep thinking this might look better
in B&W, or maybe some footprints? This is my favorite - I can
watch the surf come in for hours for relaxation
Very nice. It was in my first cut. It was hard not to put it in
the top four.
Nice solution of the theme, almost non-figurative. Did you tried
to cut of a bit of the foreground?
Can't put my finger on why I like this so much, maybe the shades of
gold.
The reflection is subtle, but well used. The colours are warm
and exquisite. I may have cropped a bit more off the top to keep the
eye in. Good texture too. |

Where is such a scene?, got my vote.
Wonderful. Great colors. I love how the water fades into the sky.
Where was this taken?
What an usual image! Who would have thought anyone would ever
see a saguaro in standing water? "Flooded desert" is an oxymoron!
Nice shot, great colors, but couldn't get this into my top 4.
desert + lake = ??
Very nice pastel colours. A desert under water! Unusual subject
for sure! The cactus looks like a hand sticking out of the see. Well
done.Excellent reflection. |
 |
F021 |
Very intriguing. There's lots for the
eye to take in - the marine mural on the building, the cemetary in
the background. Where was this taken? So many great shots in this
contest. Wish I could vote for them all.
Always drawn to fishing villages
Excellent reflection.Blends in well with the overall subject.
Nicely composed. The foreground tree is a bit of a disturbance, but
got my vote anyway. |
 |
F022 |
Great color and composition offered
Beautiful sunset and a reflection too, but not enough votes. |
 |
F023 |
Unique view, great depth, a better view
in the glass with some color would have moved it into getting my
vote Good observation and well done - different enough for a vote
(technically I suppose it is not reflecton, but refraction).
Nice. Good use of DOF.
Although I suspect this image is a composite with a fair amount
of manipulation, it is nicely done (if it is an original image, then
it is quite incredible). The colors are mellow and the concept
draws me in to study it more closely.
This is fantastic. Everything is out of focus except for the
reflection - even the glass is blurred. How did he do that? Is the
focal length for a reflection twice the distance to the reflecting
surface? This is really cool.
Tasty, on both levels.
Creative, rich colors too.Nice play on DOF & good overall
composition. |
 |
F024 |
Composition very nice, whites look a
little bright A classic and charming image gets a vote
Very nice. It was hard not to vote for this one
Beautifully done!
Classic
There's a lot to like in this one. |
 |
F025 |
Colors and water movement worked well
in this shot. Interesting image. I like the colors and the
squiggles.
Very abstact composition. Good colours. |

Another peak and the bird timed
perfectly-very nice. Great capture. I love how the contrails echo
the shape of the mountain and the bird. It turns a beautiful sunset
into something much more interesting.
Great! The stripes (jet stream or did you made it in PS?) in the
sky and the position of the bird make the otherwise ordinary (but
nice) sunset to a unique photo.
If this is a "real" image (without post manipulation), it is an
amazing capture. Although jet contrails can ruin a shot sometimes,
they really make this one work.
Is it real or is it PhotoShop? What an amazing conjunction of
images, colors - everything! The V of the bird's wings, perfectly
centered under the inverted V of the contrails - how long did you
have to wait for that to happen? Obviously not too long, or the
light would be gone. Well done!
Interesting contrails vs low sun. |
 |
F027 |
Kinda pleasing for some reason.
Reflections galore and a good theme for Easter, but out of votes.
This would have been better IMHO if both the bowl and the candy
had been in focus
Well done. I love the multiple reflections (eggs on the
tabletop, eggs in the basket glass, basket in the tabletop). I like
the muted colors as well. Technically speaking, I would like to see
the glass basket be sharper, but this is still may overall favorite!
Wonderfully composed, lighted, nice colors, nice double
reflections from the glass' two surfaces.
Who spilled the M&Ms ? Great idea, would like to have seen more
colors coming off of the crystal grooves. |
 |
F028 |
Like the wide full view of the
reflection offered, and the road line to the top right. I can see
some barrel distortion in this one. ;-)
A world growing inside the earth?
Superwide reflection and different - I like it.
Wow! Nice fisheye.
Interesting photo. Did you use fisheye?
Very original.
Good fit of fish-eye lens to theme. |
 |
F029 |
Like the metallic water effect given by
the reflection. This is so cool - what is it? Mercury?
The reflections of the branches interfere a bit with the pattern
of sand and liquid. But I guess you needed some reflection ;-) |
 |

Clever stuff - just missed out on a
vote though, as lacks aesthetics. Want to see this one win just so
I can find out how it was done. Good interpretation of the subject
Very clever and well executed but ran out of votes.
Okay, I'll ask the obvious question. How did you do it? Great
picture. It got my vote for #1.
What a wonderful concept. I found myself asking what was David's
workflow? I'm guessing he put himself over his son's image in the
foreground, since he's bigger and would completely hide his son's
back. Too much cloning to it the other way around.
Very creative, should be a favorite many years from now. (but how
does one reach the TP?)
Funny. Good idea. A bit cluttered, but such is family life! |
